Raske fakta: Innlosjert i en slående kolonitidsbygning som strekker seg over flere fløyer, rommer museet over 50 000 gjenstander som spenner over århundrer med odishansk kunst og kultur. Du finner alt fra gamle palmebladmanuskripter til en fullskala kopi av et tempel fra 1100-tallet.
Høydepunkter: Myntgalleriet viser over 2000 gamle mynter, inkludert pregede sølvstykker fra 300-tallet f.Kr. som fortsatt glitrer under utstillingslysene. En gallerirom har en sjelden samling av patta chitra-malerier fra 1700-tallet, med intrikate border malt med malte halvedelsteiner i stedet for butikkjøpte pigmenter.

- Skip the crowded central hall on weekends and head straight to the archaeological gallery on the second floor, which is always quieter.
- The textile gallery has rotating exhibits, so ask the front desk what's currently on display before you climb the stairs.
- Photography is allowed in most galleries but you'll need a separate ₹50 camera pass, buy it at the entrance counter first.
- The museum shop near the exit sells excellent reproductions of palm-leaf manuscripts for under ₹300, a better souvenir than anything in the city markets.
