Early morning, when the fortress shadow falls on the water and there is not a single other visitor. Late afternoon during low tide opens up the opportunity to examine the parts of the walls hidden underwater.

Raske fakta: Tårnet over porten ble ikke bare brukt til forsvar, men også som vindmølle for kornmaling. Festningsmurene ligger bare få meter fra vannet, og ved lavvann kan man se krabber som soler seg på steinene rundt.

Høydepunkter: I den indre borggården står fremdeles originale leirkuler til kanoner, stablet opp i hauger allerede på 1700-tallet. De ble aldri brukt. Forsvarsstrategien bygde ikke på ildkraft, men på at murene var plassert slik at fienden skulle bli fanget i trange passasjer.

  • Before climbing up, stop by the small room under the stairs, where authentic weapons and ceramics are displayed.
  • You will get the best photo not from the fortress, but from the wooden bridge over the wadi leading to the entrance.
  • There is no air conditioning inside, so during the summer months choose morning hours or bring water with you.
  • Near the fortress there is a traditional boat workshop, worth a look before or after your visit.
