The park entrance fee is 5,000 CLP per person and is paid at the guard post along the road. You save hundreds of kronor by renting a private 4x4 with a driver or driving yourself instead of booking a group excursion from town.

Korte feiten: De lagunes worden gevoed door smeltwater van de twee vulkanen en fonkelen op ruim 4.100 meter boven zeeniveau. De kleur wisselt van turkoois naar diepblauw wanneer het licht verandert, terwijl Andes-flamingosoorten gewoonlijk foerageren aan de waterkant.
Hoogtepunten: Om acht uur 's ochtends ligt het ijs als breekbaar glas over het oeverwater, en elke stap in het grind klinkt als een geknars in de absolute stilte. Een caracara scheert gewoonlijk langs de richel terwijl je de 5.910 meter hoge top van de Miñiques vlak naast je hebt.
Insidertips
- Take a spot at the viewpoint below the parking lot first, where the whole double lagoon and the volcanoes fit in one picture.
- Pack warm clothes and a hat in your backpack, the temperature can be below freezing even in the middle of summer.
- Go on a weekday and as early as possible, then you will have the lagoons almost to yourself before the group buses roll in around ten.
- Skip the line at the toilet at the entrance, use the facilities in Toconao before the trip instead.
