Insidertips
- Start at the Philosophenweg (Philosopher's Walk) and follow the signs upward, the trail ends near the Thingstätte where you can rest and enjoy the view.
- Bring a copy of Hölderlin's poem 'Heidelberg' to read at the stations, it adds a whole new layer of meaning to the experience.
- Visit on a weekday morning if you want the trail almost entirely to yourself, weekends draw locals and hikers.
- The stone pillars make excellent photo subjects, especially in the soft light of late afternoon when the carvings cast long shadows.
