Brimketill – natural lava rock sea pool and coastal viewpoint

Korte feiten: Ruw lavagesteente vangt zeewater op in een ondiepe poel, zodat je anemonen en kleine kreeftachtigen kunt bekijken terwijl golven nabij donderen. Een smalle, door wind gegeselde richel maakt de plek filmisch tijdens het gouden uur. Fotografen houden van de glanzende reflecties tegen de basalt.

Hoogtepunten: Een hol bassin bromt als een waterketel wanneer een grote golf inslaat, en stuift een zoute spray die tintelt op je gezicht en sterk naar ijzer ruikt. Sta slechts een paar meter van de rand op een smal rotsplateau en je kunt een spectaculair moment zien waarin natte zwarte basalt fel oranje oplicht als de zon ondergaat. Veel lokale bewoners plannen hier hun foto’s.

• Wear sturdy waterproof boots and a windproof jacket, surfaces are uneven and often slippery.
• Keep a safe distance from the water, large unexpected waves can sweep across the rocks.
• Photograph from the low cliff east of the pool at golden hour for the best compositions and textures.
• Avoid midday when tour buses may stop, early morning or late afternoon is quieter.
