On Friday afternoons at 3pm, Franciscan monks lead a procession through the streets with real Roman-era flagstones, bells echoing off the stone walls as dozens of international pilgrims join in carrying a wooden cross.

- Start at the Lions Gate and walk south. The route flows roughly northwest to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
- Look for the small brass discs with Roman numerals embedded in the ground. Some are easy to miss among the market stalls.
- Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes. The stone pavement is uneven and can be slippery, especially after rain.
- Station 5 has a clear handprint indentation in the stone wall where tradition says Jesus braced himself.
