Korte feiten: Dit gebouw van hout en steen werd opgericht door de eerste zwarte miljonair van Jamaica, George Stiebel Devon. Zijn verhaal van opkomst van zoon van slaven tot plantage-eigenaar en bankier inspireert bezoekers nog altijd.

Hoogtepunten: In de tuin van het huis groeit een broodvruchtboom die een directe afstammeling is van de originele boom van het schip de Bounty. Het is een levend monument voor kapitein Bligh, de man die broodvrucht naar Jamaica bracht en het Caribische dieet veranderde.

Enter the house first while it is fresh and cool, and save the ice cream for the end of your visit.
The best photos of the front facade are taken in the early morning hours, before 10 AM, when the light is most beautiful.
Skip the guided vehicle tour of the estate, you get much more by exploring the rooms on your own.
Bring a hat and water, there is not much shade in the garden during the midday hours.
