Korte feiten: René Haller, een Zwitserse ecoloog, liet deze kale kalksteengroeve herrijzen tot een bos bevolkt door honderden giraffen, nijlpaarden, antilopen en vogels. Men treft er Mzee, een meer dan 130 jaar oude reuzenschildpad van de Seychellen, beroemd om haar onwaarschijnlijke vriendschap met Owen, een wees geworden nijlpaard.
Hoogtepunten: De ster van het park blijft Owen, het kleine wees geworden nijlpaard dat na de tsunami van 2004 werd opgevangen en Mzee, een reuzenschildpad van 220 kilo, als beste vriend koos. De twee maatjes zwemmen, eten en slapen zij aan zij, een teder en surrealistisch schouwspel om vanaf de paden te bekijken.
