Gediminas' Tower (Gedimino pilies bokštas)
Best time to visit
Early morning or late afternoon gives softer light and fewer tourists, ideal for photos and a calmer visit. Summer evenings offer long daylight but bring larger crowds.
Budget tips
Small admission fee, typically around €4–6 for adults, with discounted rates for students and seniors; check the official site for current prices. Free entry often happens on European Museum Night and some national holidays, and the Vilnius City Card or combined museum tickets can save money if you plan multiple visits.

About
Korte feiten: Climb the steep path and you'll be rewarded with a panoramic sweep of red roofs and winding streets, a perfect spot for sunset photos. A squat brick tower crowns the hill, where small museum displays and a dramatic flag give a tactile sense of the nation's past.
Hoogtepunten: Climb the steep cobbled lane to a squat brick tower where cannonball pockmarks still pucker the outer wall, and the air up there tastes faintly of tar and old smoke when the wind comes from the river. A local tradition has passersby rubbing a particular worn stone in the stairwell for luck before stepping onto the battlements, and on national holidays the tricolor is hoisted at sunrise while crowds press close to the railing to catch the first light and the bell's low peal.
Insider tips
- Wear comfortable shoes for the steep, cobbled path and a windproof layer at the top during cooler months.
- Arrive before 10:00 or after 17:00 to avoid tour groups and get clearer photo opportunities.
- Step onto the terrace facing the Old Town for classic skyline shots; the hill path provides alternative framed views over the city.
- Buy tickets at the museum kiosk or online in advance to skip the small ticket line on busy days.

4.3Arrived at 8am, no line and peaceful views of Vilnius. Climbing the tower is worth it, small museum fee felt fair.
Bezoek bij zonsondergang had matige drukte maar prachtige stadslichten. Toegang was goedkoop, sla de souvenirkraam over.
Bought a combo ticket with the funicular late afternoon; short line and the museum exhibits made the visit feel worthwhile.
Came at 2pm and it was packed, long stair climb and tight spaces. Great views but not worth it if you struggle with stairs.
