Insidertips

  • Wear modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, and be ready to remove shoes before entering the prayer halls
  • The funicular is worth the fee during hot afternoons, but the walking path up is shaded and offers closer looks at the gardens
  • Aim to arrive before 9 AM on weekends to beat the local worshippers and tour buses
  • Carry an umbrella or rain jacket because tropical downpours can arrive suddenly even when the sky looks clear
