Hoogtepunten: Onder de lange renaissance-arcades verhandelden handelaars vroeger doek, zout en Venetiaanse specerijen, en sinds 1879 werd de bovenzaal omgebouwd tot een nationale galerij waar de enorme historische doeken van Jan Matejko tegenover de gebeeldhouwde houten marktkramen staan. Elke ochtend draagt de lucht nog steeds de warme geur van gegrilde obwarzanki en de schittering van barnstenen kralen in tientallen kraampjes creëert een honinggouden glans die fotografen vaak met een 50mm-lens proberen vast te leggen.
