Best in the morning right after opening at 9:00 AM, when the crowds are smallest and the morning light beautifully illuminates the Gothic windows in the knights' hall. In autumn, the surrounding forests burst with colors, which enhances the atmosphere of the entire grounds.

Basic admission costs 70 lei (approx. 350 CZK), with discounts for students and seniors. If you plan to visit the nearby Râșnov Fortress as well, get a combined ticket for 90 lei.

Korte feiten: Jaarlijks bezoeken ruim 600 duizend bezoekers de plek die ze met eigen ogen willen zien, een plek die verbonden is met de legende over Dracula. In werkelijkheid heeft Vlad de Spietser, die vermoedelijk model stond voor de vampierlijke graaf, hier nooit gewoond. Het kasteel diende vooral als douanefort en koninklijke residentie.

Hoogtepunten: Op het binnenhof staat nog steeds de oorspronkelijke stenen put van 60 meter diep, die ooit met de hand werd uitgegraven door Turkse gevangenen. Instead of standing in the hour-long line at the main gate, use the side entrance through Queen Marie's Tea House. It is almost line-free.
The best photo of the castle is taken from the viewpoint by the road below the castle, where the entire silhouette including the towers is in the frame.
It is not worth buying souvenirs from the first stall at the castle. A few meters further in the foothills, they sell them for half the price.
