V&A Waterfront (Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town)
Beste tijd om te bezoeken
Late afternoon into sunset gives the best light for photos and a lively atmosphere; weekdays in shoulder seasons like March and April are less crowded and often less windy.
Budgettips
Waterfront promenade is free to explore, but attractions like the Two Oceans Aquarium and boat cruises charge admission—book combo or online deals to save. Use MyCiTi bus or walk from the CBD to avoid taxi fares and choose food stalls or the Watershed market for cheaper eats.

Korte feiten: Salt-tinged sea breezes, street performers and the clink of yacht rigging create a lively harbor atmosphere that makes for an effortlessly enjoyable day out. Beneath historic warehouses, more than 450 shops and dozens of galleries cluster around market piers, so you can hop from designer boutiques to fresh seafood stalls without missing a beat.
Hoogtepunten: On Saturday mornings the air mixes hot salt and frying oil as vendors pull apart enormous gatsby sandwiches, often about 30 centimeters long, the mayo and peri-peri sauce running down paper cones. Meanwhile a cheeky colony of Cape fur seals rides the wakes of tourist boats and bob within two meters of kayaks, their whiskers and wet noses glistening while the old red cranes groan in the background.
Insidertips
- Bring a windproof layer and comfortable shoes, Cape Town winds pick up quickly on the water.
- Head to the pier near the Clock Tower for classic photos of the harbour with Table Mountain in the background.
- Skip the busiest harbour-side restaurants at peak dinner time, try the Watershed food stalls or the V&A Food Market for variety and lower prices.
- Visit early morning on weekdays for quieter strolls, or after 5pm on summer evenings for sunset without daytime heat.
