Korte feiten: At 1,560 meters above sea level, the mountain crossroads of Cruz de Tejeda marks the geographic heart of Gran Canaria. The landmark stone cross that gives this place its name was erected in 1946 to commemorate the area's history as a meeting point for shepherds and travelers.
Hoogtepunten: Stand at the mirador and you're looking straight into the massive Caldera de Tejeda, an ancient volcanic crater that collapsed 14 million years ago. On clear days, you can trace the island's three distinct climate zones from a single vantage point: the humid pine forests, the dry southern slopes, and the lush northern valleys all visible at once.

- Neem ook in de zomer een jas mee: de temperaturen op 1.560 meter kunnen 10°C kouder zijn dan aan de kust, met plotselinge windvlagen.
- Sla het restaurant bij de Parador over en loop 5 minuten naar de kraampjes langs de weg voor verse queso de flor (een lokale geitenkaas gemaakt met distelstremsel).
- Kom vóór 10.00 uur als je het stenen kruis en de mirador voor jezelf wilt hebben, want touringcars arriveren vanaf midden op de ochtend.
- Het pad achter het kruis leidt naar een kort gemarkeerd pad met nog beter uitzicht over de caldera en vrijwel geen mensenmassa's.
