Korte feiten: Stretching over 3 kilometers along Las Palmas' coastline, this urban beach is actually a protected marine reserve thanks to its natural offshore reef barrier. The golden sand was imported from the Sahara Desert in the 1970s after storms washed away the original beach.
Hoogtepunten: At low tide, you can walk out onto La Barra, the volcanic reef that runs parallel to the shore and creates calm, shallow pools teeming with tiny crabs and starfish. Locals gather here at sunset to watch the waves crash over the reef while the city lights begin to flicker behind them.

- Loop naar het noordelijke uiteinde (de hoek van Las Canteras) voor de beste zonsondergangfoto's met het rif op de voorgrond.
- Waterschoenen zijn een goed idee bij laagwater wanneer het vulkanische rif bloot komt te liggen en scherp kan zijn voor blote voeten.
- Sla de restaurants direct op het zand over en loop één straat richting het binnenland voor meer waar voor je geld en authentieke Canarische keuken.
- Kom in het weekend voor 10.00 uur als je een goede plek wilt zonder de drukte.
