Visit the Bañuelo (Arab baths)

Korte feiten: Surviving since the 11th century, three of these ancient bathhouses still stand in their original form under later Christian buildings. The star-shaped skylights once let in natural light while steam rose through the same openings, creating a dreamy atmosphere for bathers.

Hoogtepunten: Look up at the ceiling and you will see dozens of star-shaped skylights casting geometric patterns across the warm stone. Those openings were deliberately designed to let light filter through the steam, so bathers could lie back and watch the stars dance overhead even during daytime.

• Wear shoes you can easily slip off: you will need to remove them before walking on the delicate original flooring.
• Stand directly below a skylight and look up: the star patterns are most vivid from that exact angle.
• Arrive when doors open at 10 AM to have the main chamber nearly to yourself for the first 15 minutes.
• Skip the audio guide and read the wall panels instead: the space is small enough that audio feels overkill.
