Hoogtepunten: Only one flower, the rare Teide violet, manages to bloom above 3,000 meters on these volcanic slopes. Catch daybreak from the summit and the mountain's shadow stretches into a perfect triangle far out across the Atlantic below.

- Pack layers, summit winds can push temperatures below freezing even in July.

- On gusty days the cable car halts completely, so keep a lower-altitude trail like the Roques de García as a backup.
