Korte feiten: Perched dramatically above the Huécar River gorge, these hanging gardens were originally conceived in the 1960s by a local artist and architect. The complex includes over 20,000 square meters of terraced gardens that seem to float against the cliffs of the old town.

• Wear sturdy shoes with grip: the stone pathways can get slippery near the waterfalls and some stairs are quite steep.
• The best photo spot is the mid-level balcony two-thirds of the way up, where the entire cascade system frames the old town skyline.
• Visit on a weekday morning to have the narrow cliffside paths almost entirely to yourself.
• Skip the upper restaurant terrace unless you need a drink: the lower cafe near the entrance has better views and more reasonable prices.
