Korte feiten: Met een hoogte van 40 meter op een heuveltop aan het zuidelijkste punt van Sri Lanka biedt deze glanzend witte vredespagoda panoramische uitzichten over Galle Fort en de Indische Oceaan. Het is een van de meer dan 80 vredespagoda's die wereldwijd zijn gebouwd door de Japanse boeddhistische orde Nipponzan Myohoji om wereldvrede te bevorderen na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Hoogtepunten: In tegenstelling tot de meeste pagoda's die strikt door Japanse monniken zijn gebouwd, werd deze gebouwd door samenwerking van Japanse en Sri Lankaanse boeddhisten, waarbij lokale ambachtslieden ingewikkelde details in de witte muren kerfden. Vier verschillende boeddhistische tradities zijn vertegenwoordigd in het ontwerp van de pagoda, met kleine heiligdommen op elke windrichting met Boeddhabeelden in verschillende houdingen uit Thaise, Birmese, Sri Lankaanse en Japanse stijlen.
