Korte feiten: Gebouwd met 12 miljoen bakstenen was dit paleis ooit de indrukwekkendste koninklijke residentie van Zuidoost-Azië. De oorspronkelijke structuur had zeven verdiepingen, al zijn vandaag de dag alleen de eerste drie niveaus van majestueuze muren overgebleven.
Hoogtepunten: Tussen deze muren lopen betekent een plek betreden die in de 12e eeuw meer dan duizend kamers bevatte. De muren bevatten nog sporen van gekleurde pleister en gaten voor de houten balken, details die het ongelooflijke vakmanschap van de Singalese bouwers vertellen.

- Wear closed-toe, lightweight shoes; the ground among the ruins is uneven and you can easily trip.
- Climb up to the panoramic viewpoint behind the palace for an overview that reveals the original layout.
- Arrive at the park opening at 7:00 AM; the first two hours are magical without tourists.
- Bring a portable fan, the air between the thick walls becomes suffocating in the middle of the day.
