Korte feiten: De collectie loopt van de 15e eeuw tot heden, met opvallende werken van Rembrandt, van Gogh en Picasso. De beeldenhal van de familie Förster, een grote atriumzaal met een glazen dak, herbergt meer dan 400 werken in een ruimte die meer aanvoelt als een wintertuin dan als een galerie.
Hoogtepunten: Verborgen op de tweede verdieping bevindt zich een van de beste collecties van Noordse kunst rond de eeuwwisseling van Europa, waaronder Carl Larssons monumentale fresco "Midvinterblot", een enorm schilderij van 6 bij 14 meter dat bij de eerste tentoonstelling een verhit nationaal debat ontketende. De trap van het museum wordt omlijst door het enige complete intacte interieur van de gevierde Zweedse schilder en hij weigerde het te laten opbreken, dus kocht het museum de hele kamer.
