Korte feiten: Meer dan 200 theehuizen en eetkraampjes verdringen zich in deze smalle bergstraat, waar alles wordt geserveerd van taro ballen tot stinkende straattofu. De straat trekt jaarlijks ruim 6 miljoen bezoekers, wat het een van de meest bezochte plekken in Noord-Taiwan maakt.
Hoogtepunten: Volgens de legende werden de iconische rode lantaarns van de oude straat geïnspireerd door een Japanse film uit 1989, niet door lokale tradities. De lantaarns werden pas opgehangen nadat de filmploeg winkeliers had gevraagd te versieren voor de sfeer. Tegenwoordig gloeien de trapsgewijze rode lantaarns vanaf 16.00 uur en veranderen ze de stenen trappen in iets dat rechtstreeks uit een Studio Ghibli-droom lijkt te komen.
