Best time to visit
Early morning during the cool season, November to February, gives crisp air, clearer views and a chance of sea-of-clouds at sunrise. Rainy months bring fuller waterfalls but expect muddy trails and occasional closures.

Typical foreigner entry fee is about 300 THB, Thai rates are lower and vehicle fees of roughly 30–50 THB often apply; bring cash for payments at the park office. If planning several park visits, ask the park office about multi-visit discounts or guided-trail fees to save money.

Korte feiten: Fog-wreathed peaks hide carpets of moss and dozens of wild orchids, while rare montane birds and colorful sunbirds flit through the cloud forest. Hikers follow cool, misty trails past tumbling waterfalls and twin gardens of ornate pagodas, experiencing sudden alpine-like temperature drops and sweeping valley views.
Hoogtepunten: At 2,565 meters above sea level the summit plunges into moss-draped cloud forest where mornings can dip to around 0°C; you can smell wet earth and spot tiny orchids clinging to the bark among wisps of drifting fog. Two gleaming white chedis, Naphamethanidon and Naphaphonphumisiri, were erected to mark the 60th birthdays of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, and below them a waterfall drops roughly 260 meters, roaring into a spray that catches sunlight in rainbow ribbons during the wet season.
Insider tips
- Dress in warm layers and a windproof jacket, summit temperatures can be 5–10°C cooler than Chiang Mai town.
- Wear sturdy, waterproof shoes for slippery paths near waterfalls and muddy trails after rain.
- Reserve a slot or join an early guided walk for the Kew Mae Pan Nature Trail, daily places are limited.
- Arrive at the summit before 8:00 AM for sunrise, cloud inversion and fewer crowds; midafternoon is busiest.
