Bristol is a generally safe, foreigner-friendly city with good English proficiency. The main tourist cautions are the usual city-centre pickpocketing and street encounters, plus unofficial taxis and poor-rate currency exchanges. Violent crime is moderate, so keep your wits about you late at night in the centre.

Hoe het werkt: Drivers without licences approach travellers inside the arrivals hall offering rides at inflated or unclear prices. They may not use meters and can overcharge heavily.
Hoe je het vermijdt: Use only the official licensed taxi rank outside the terminal or a recognised app such as Uber or Bolt.
Hoe het werkt: Groups or individuals create a distraction, such as bumping into you or asking for directions, while an accomplice lifts your wallet or phone.
Hoe je het vermijdt: Keep valuables in front pockets or a zipped bag and stay alert in crowded spots.
Hoe het werkt: People ask you to sign a petition or donate to a cause, then pressure you for cash or read your card details from the clipboard.
Hoe je het vermijdt: Politely decline and keep walking; genuine street fundraisers do not push for immediate card payment.
Hoe het werkt: Some venues near major attractions charge much more or add service charges not shown clearly on the menu or outside.
Hoe je het vermijdt: Check the menu and bill carefully, ask about charges, and eat a few streets back from main tourist spots.
Sla straatverkopers over: boek officiële tickets en rondleidingen met gratis annulering.

Eerlijke taxiprijs (officieel, overdag): £25 - £35 (€30 - €41). Use the official licensed taxi rank outside the terminal. Metered fares to the centre run about 25 to 35 pounds. Refuse unlicensed drivers who approach you inside or near the arrivals hall.
Beste alternatief: Airport Flyer Express Bus A1 to Bristol Temple Meads station and city centre (£8 (€9,45), ongeveer 30 min)
Fooi geven: Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. Around 10 to 15 percent in sit-down restaurants; round up in taxis and for tours.
Couverts en servicekosten: Most Bristol restaurants do not add a cover charge. Some add an optional service charge, usually 10 to 12.5 percent, shown on the bill. Ask if not listed.
Choose to be charged in pounds and decline dynamic currency conversion. Prefer bank-attached ATMs. Beware high-fee independent ATM machines in convenience stores and nightlife areas.
