Taff Trail
Beste tijd om te bezoeken
Aim for late spring or early autumn when the valley is green but trails are dry. Morning rides beat the midday heat and catch the sunlight filtering through the trees along the river.
Budgettips
The entire route is free, no entry fees or passes required. Bring your own bike, a packed lunch, and refillable water bottle to keep the whole day under 10 pounds.

Over
Korte feiten: The path follows the route of the old Glamorganshire Canal and the former Taff Vale Railway line across 55 miles of mostly flat terrain. Around 2 million bike trips happen on it each year, and you can pedal from the sea at Cardiff Bay to the hills of Brecon without ever sharing a road with cars.
Hoogtepunten: Just past Pontypridd, the trail ducks into a series of disused railway tunnels where the temperature drops instantly and your voice echoes off curves of dark brick. Carry a small light and you'll feel the exact spot where the old steam train route punched through the hillside in 1841.
Insidertips
- Start at Cardiff Bay and ride against the prevailing wind so the return trip feels easier.
- Bring a waterproof layer even in summer, the riverside path gets splashed and sudden showers are common.
- Stop at Castell Coch for a photo, the fairytale castle appears right beside the trail mid-route.
- Watch for the hidden viaduct arches near Pontypridd where the old railway route cuts through shadowy stone.
