Beste tijd om te bezoeken

Weekday mornings around 10am are quietest before lunch crowds arrive. December brings free concerts on the Minton tile floor, which is a magical seasonal highlight.

Budgettips

Entry to the hall and self-guided areas is free. Guided tours cost around £8-10 and are worth the fee for access to the courtroom and cells. Check for free lunchtime concerts which run regularly.

Insidertips

  • Ask at the desk about the 'Hollow Floor' demonstration where staff show you how the tiles bounce.
  • The former jail cells in the basement are easy to miss but genuinely atmospheric.
  • Visit during a weekday in winter for the most dramatic light through the stained glass windows.
  • The free audio guide is thorough and adds excellent context about the courtroom and prison.
