Korte feiten: Meer dan 2.500 muziekinstrumenten uit vijf eeuwen vullen de galerijen, waaronder een gitaar die toebehoorde aan Jimi Hendrix en het persoonlijke klavecimbel van Händel. De collectie van het museum begon met een enkele schenking van 470 instrumenten in de late 19e eeuw en is uitgegroeid tot een van de meest complete muziekinstrumentencollecties op aarde.
Hoogtepunten: De meeste bezoekers lopen zo voorbij de onopvallende glazen vitrine met een Stradivarius-cello uit 1722, een van de slechts 63 bewaard gebleven cello's van de meester, met een waarde van meer dan 20 miljoen dollar. Je kunt via de digitale audiogids van het museum daadwerkelijk opnames horen van veel instrumenten die worden bespeeld, waardoor stille vitrines veranderen in een levende concertzaal vol eeuwenoude klanken.
