Korte feiten: Verspreid over 19 hectare tonen deze tuinen meer dan 5.000 plantensoorten van over de hele wereld. Acht verschillende kassen creëren verschillende klimaatzones, van droge woestijnlandschappen tot tropische regenwoudomstandigheden.
Hoogtepunten: Een smalspoorbaan vervoerde ooit kolen door tunnels onder de tuinen om die kassen te verwarmen, en je kunt de afgedichte tunnelingangen nog steeds zien als je weet waar je moet kijken. De gebogen, gietijzeren berenkuil uit 1856 staat nog steeds achter het hoofdpaviljoen, een verrassend elegant bouwwerk gebouwd voor een spektakel dat niet meer bestaat.
