Korte feiten: Meer dan 3.700 dieren van meer dan 650 soorten noemen dit 40 hectare grote wildpark hun thuis. De dierentuin beheert ook een enorm wildparkverbond van 730 hectare waar bedreigde diersoorten zoals de Californische condor worden gefokt en van uitsterven gered.
Hoogtepunten: Achter de schermen bereidt een toegewijd team van voedingsdeskundigen dagelijks meer dan 6.000 op maat gemaakte maaltijden in een van de grootste dierkeukens ter wereld, met onder andere diepgevroren visijsjes voor de ijsberen. De dierverzorgingsspecialisten van de dierentuin hebben met succes meer dan 200.000 dieren gefokt, waaronder het eerste reuzenpandajong dat in de Verenigde Staten werd geboren.

- Skip the crowded entrance bus and take the Kangaroo Bus (hop-on-hop-off) instead to cover more ground efficiently.
- Visit the absolutely must-see Giant Panda Research Station before 11 AM when the pandas are most active and the viewing lines are shortest.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes because the zoo is built on a canyon with steep hills, and the Skyfari aerial tram gives your legs a break with stunning views.
- The Children's Zoo area and petting paddock are surprisingly delightful for adults too, especially during the 11:30 AM reptile handling session.
