Fatos rápidos: La arena volcánica oscura le da a esta playa junto al lago un tono carbón, un subproducto del volcán de 2.847 metros que se cierne directamente sobre el agua. Incluso durante los días más cálidos de enero el lago se mantiene cerca de 18 °C, de modo que los nadadores se sumergen para un choque tonificante antes de asolearse en la arena negra.
Destaques: Después del atardecer, un débil pulso naranja suele nadar dentro del cráter abierto del volcán, un lago de lava que proyecta un resplandor de fogata sobre el agua. La erupción de 2015 convirtió ese pulso en fuentes de roca fundida que se arquearon sobre la cumbre, enviando a los nadadores de vuelta a la orilla mientras todo el cielo brillaba en escarlata.
