Fatos rápidos: O porto fortificado de Nafpaktos resistiu a inúmeros cercos e passou pelas mãos de venezianos, otomanos e gregos. Sua baía em forma de crescente oferece banho logo abaixo das imponentes muralhas medievais que caem diretamente no mar.

Destaques: Uma corrida de natação de 500 metros chamada "Travessia dos Estreitos de Nafpaktos" acontece todo mês de agosto, com participantes saltando das muralhas do castelo veneziano nas águas turquesa. Você pode ficar nas mesmas ameias onde a famosa Batalha de Lepanto de 1571 mudou o equilíbrio do poder no Mediterrâneo e, segundos depois, mergulhar para um banho.

• Bring swim shoes if you plan to enter the water from the pebbly beach beneath the walls.
• The Ouzeri tavernas on the east side of the harbor serve the best grilled octopus with a view of the fortress.
• Skip the main road parking and follow the signs to the upper lot for free street parking.
