Fatos rápidos: Dedicado ao Senhor Shiva, este templo fica às margens das águas interiores de Kavvayi, no norte de Kerala. A divindade principal é um lingam de Shiva automanifestado (Swayambhu), que os locais acreditam ter sido descoberto por um agricultor ao arar seu campo há séculos.
Destaques: Diferente da maioria dos templos de Kerala com imponentes gopurams, o santuário aqui é uma estrutura pequena e de teto baixo, onde é preciso se curvar para entrar, criando um encontro íntimo com a divindade. Durante o festival anual Kalasham, os tanques do templo são iluminados com mais de 10.000 lamparinas a óleo ao mesmo tempo, cujos reflexos ondulam sobre a água escura enquanto os sacerdotes entoam antigos hinos védicos.
