Fatos rápidos: Esta isla barreira que abriga a lagoa da Ria Formosa é o lar de 1.000 residentes o ano inteiro que cresceron sem carros, apenas caminos de arena. Não há arranha-céulos nem resorts aquí, dando lugar a passarelas de madeira e casitas de pescadores pintadas de cores vivas.
Destaques: Os locais ainda jogam um juego de cartas tradicional chamado Sueca no único café da ilha até tarde da noite, e se pode ouvir as risas e o palmear das cartas desde a arena. Toda a extensión leste da areia se move tanto com as tempestades de inverno que a forma da praia cambia notoriamente de um ano ao seguinte.

- Take the early ferry (around 8:30 AM) to experience the island before day-trippers arrive and watch fishermen unload their catch.
- Bring sandals or water shoes for the 15-minute boardwalk trek from the ferry dock to the ocean side, as the sand gets scorching by midday.
- Skip the closest restaurant to the ferry stop and walk 5 minutes further to the one with the blue door for better grilled fish and fewer flies.
- Pack a windbreaker even on sunny days, the Atlantic breeze picks up sharply after 3 PM along the unprotected eastern beach.
