Fatos rápidos: Cerca de 192 metros de ferro atravessam o Reno aqui, e aquela capelinha vermelha no meio observa a travessia há séculos. As pessoas pagam para cruzar este ponto desde 1225, quando a ponte medieval com pedágio substituiu uma balsa arriscada, mas hoje o vão é gratuito para todos a pé.

Destaques: Aquela capelinha no meio do vão é um resquício de um teste medieval brutal: os acusados eram lançados ao Reno a partir da grade, e quem conseguisse voltar à superfície era declarado inocente por julgamento divino. A água ainda corre rápida e fria o suficiente para que esse ritual faça sentido, especialmente nos dias de degelo da primavera, quando a correnteza puxa forte contra os pilares.

Come back after dark, when the crossing is floodlit and its reflections shimmer on the current, a totally different mood from rush hour.
