Sobre
Fatos rápidos: More than 2,000 species of drought-tolerant plants from six Mediterranean climate zones thrive across 12.5 acres. The collection includes over 800 types of succulents and cacti, making it one of the most diverse arid-plant collections in Southern California.
Destaques: A shaded pathway winds past a pair of century-old olive trees that were relocated from a historic Orange County ranch. In spring, the South African section erupts with aloes in fiery reds and oranges that attract migrating orioles and hummingbirds by the dozens.
Dicas de quem conhece
- Bring a hat and water even on overcast days; many paths have no shade cover.
- The best photo spot is the curved bench beneath the giant bird of paradise grove near the South African section.
- Skip the main entrance path and head straight for the back loop where the rarest succulents are displayed.
- Visit right after a rain shower when the air smells of sage and the succulents look plump and vibrant.
