O atrakciji

Brze činjenice: Founded by Greek colonists in 734 BC, this was actually the very first Greek settlement on the entire island of Sicily. The city was completely destroyed by Dionysius I of Syracuse in 403 BC and never rebuilt, leaving the ruins frozen in time exactly as they were abandoned.

Istaknuto: Wander through the foundations of a 5th-century BC residential neighborhood where you can still trace the outline of individual rooms, streets, and even an ancient drainage system. The real magic happens in spring when wildflowers bloom among the stone ruins, with Mount Etna looming dramatically in the background and the Ionian Sea crashing just steps away.

Insajderski saveti

  • Bring a hat and sunscreen because the ruins are completely exposed with almost no shade.
  • Head to the northern edge of the park for the best photo framing the ancient walls against Mount Etna.
  • Skip midday in summer when the heat on the stone paths can be intense, opt for the first entry slot instead.
  • Combine your visit with a quick stop at the Museo Archeologico di Naxos right next door to see the artifacts unearthed here.
