About

Quick facts: Flowing through the dense forests of the Ratnapura district, this waterfall drops from a height of about 25 meters in three tiers. The warm water from the nearby Galle mineral spring flows through the famous gem mining areas of Ratnapura.

Highlights: The uniqueness here is that while bathing in the naturally formed small pools at the bottom of the waterfall, you may see tiny glittering gem fragments in the water. During the monsoon, the water pressure increases so much that the roar of the waterfall can be clearly heard up to two kilometers away.

Insider tips

  • The wet rocks are very slippery, so wear sandals or shoes with good grip when going into the water.
  • There is a small cave on the third level of the waterfall where the view of the water looks amazing, be sure to go there.
  • Very few people come here on weekdays, so choose a Tuesday or Wednesday to avoid the crowds.
  • The nearby Galle hot spring is just a 10 minute walk away, explore both together.
