It is best to come between 7-9 AM, when the temple is quiet and the prayer atmosphere is at its peak. In August-September, you get a great opportunity to see the Rath Yatra and Perahera procession.

Quick facts: Located in the heart of Ratnapura city, this temple is dedicated to a deity named Suman, who is believed in Buddhism to be the first to touch the Buddha's feet. Every year, thousands of devotees come here to join the chariot procession and Perahera festival, which is the largest religious event in the region.
Highlights: This is a place where people from Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities all come to pray together, and symbols of all three religions can be seen under one roof. The special thing is that the chief priest here often observes the traditions of all three communities together, setting an example of harmony.
Insider tips
- Coming during prayer time (6:30-7:30 AM), the sight of the aarti performed by the priest is very special
- Photography is limited inside the temple complex, do not forget to seek permission from the priest first
- Come wearing white or light colored traditional clothes, entry is not allowed in shorts and t-shirts
- There is a small garden behind the main temple which is perfect for meditating away from the city noise
