Quick facts: Nearly 8 million people visit this pier each year, all coming here to breathe in that special Pacific Ocean air. It is home to the world's first and only adventure trail made from a printing press powered by ink.
Highlights: Locals know the best time to come is at sunset, when the sky turns orange-blue and the old wooden roulette wheel makes its daily 3,000 spins. This pier, opened in 1909, is the only place in the world where you can eat ice cream, ride a 1920s-style carousel, and watch fishermen haul in their evening catch all at the same time.
Insider tips
- Park at the West PCH parking lot, it is cheaper and less crowded than the pier's own parking lot.
- For the best photo, go to the end of the pier and take a picture back toward the beach, so that both the pier and the sunset are in the frame.
- Avoid midday on weekends when it is most crowded, and instead come early in the morning or late in the evening.
- Do not spend money on an expensive restaurant, instead eat at one of the street food stalls where the views are just as good.
