Biarritz surprised me honestly. The waves were way bigger than I expected and the whole town has this laid back surf vibe mixed with old money charm. 3 days felt just right, any longer and I think I'd get bored.
This place is beautiful no doubt but it was SO crowded in July. Could barely find a spot on the beach. If you can come in late September the water is still warm and there's actual space to breathe.
Meh. Maybe I hyped it up too much from Instagram photos. The lighthouse views are stunning but after a day you've seen it all. Also everything shuts down early which felt weird for a beach town. Glad I combined it with a day trip to San Sebastian.
Skip the tourist restaurants along the Grande Plage and walk up into the streets behind the market. This little place on Rue Gambetta does a pintxos plate for 12 euros and it's the best meal I had. Also rent a surfboard from the shack near the lighthouse, way cheaper than the big rental shops.
Food was solid but pricey. Paid 18 euros for a salad near the beach that would cost 8 anywhere else. The croissants though, best I had in all of France. Weather was hit or miss in April, pack layers.
