Sunday mornings around 10 AM when the cathedral mass lets out and folk dance troupes perform in the square. Visit during the first week of February for the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria, Peru's biggest folk festival.

No entry fee for the square itself. The Cathedral is free to enter but donations are appreciated. Skip overpriced tourist restaurants on the plaza perimeter and walk one block inland for better value meals.
