More than 1,500 graves here date back to the mid-1800s, with many belonging to families who helped build the surrounding farming community.

That bench was placed there by a local widow who visited every evening for 14 years after her husband was buried here, and the caretaker still leaves fresh flowers on it each week.

- The oldest burial section is the southwest quadrant, look for the metal markers with hand-stamped letters from the 1870s.

- Skip midday summer visits when the hilltop has zero shade and temperatures top 100 degrees.
