أفضل وقت للزيارة

Late afternoon (3-5 PM) when the golden sun lights up the stone walls and the crowds thin out. Spring and fall offer mild weather and lush green surroundings.

Entry to the village is free. The only cost is around 2-3 EUR to climb the Šišman Ibrahim-Pasha Mosque tower and another 1-2 EUR for the citadel. Bring cash in small denominations.

حول

حقائق سريعة: Perched on a steep hillside above the Neretva River, this fortified village has been continuously inhabited since the 14th century. The octagonal clock tower is one of the few surviving examples of Ottoman-era timekeeping architecture in the entire Balkan region.

النقاط البارزة: Climb the 200-plus uneven stone steps to the top of the citadel and you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Neretva River snaking through the emerald valley below. The wooden shutters on the old stone houses still creak in the same way they did when Ottoman travelers rested here along the Dubrovnik-Sarajevo caravan route.

نصائح من الداخل

  • Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, the 200-plus steps to the fortress are uneven and slippery after rain.
  • Skip the restaurants right at the entrance, walk 5 minutes downhill to the riverside terrace for better food and views.
  • The best photos come from the middle terrace of the clock tower, not the top, where you capture both the river and the rooftops.
  • Visit on a weekday morning if you want the cobblestone alleys almost entirely to yourself.
