حقائق سريعة: The 17th-century canal was dug by Swedish prisoners of war during the Dano-Swedish wars. Colorful gabled houses line the waterfront, with the oldest house dating to 1681 at number 9.

Hans Christian Andersen lived at three different addresses along the canal (numbers 18, 20, and 67) and wrote some of his most famous fairy tales while staying here.
