- Wear comfortable walking shoes since the site covers about 5 acres of open gravel paths that get hot in summer and muddy in rain.
- Skip the lengthy documentary film at the visitor center if you're short on time and head straight to the grounds; the museum exhibits tell the story more powerfully.
- Visit the former crematorium area last, as it is the most emotionally intense section and best approached after the main museum.
- Take the S-Bahn from Munich Hauptbahnhof to Dachau station, then the 726 bus direct to the memorial, avoiding expensive organized tours from the city.
