حقائق سريعة: مجمع واسع على ضفاف النهر يضم معبداً شاهقاً ذا تسعة أبراج للإلهة الأم الشرسة، ويحاذيه صف أنيق من اثني عشر مذبحاً لشيفا تصطف مع النهر. كثيراً ما يتجول الحجاج والزوار الفضوليون في ساحات الرخام على إيقاع الأناشيد الدينية، بينما تملأ أكاليل القطيفة والبخور الأجواء في الصباحات المزدحمة.
النقاط البارزة: اعتاد متصوف كاريزمي من القرن التاسع عشر يُدعى راماكريشنا أن يجلس لساعات في غرفة صلاة صغيرة يردد الترانيم حتى يتشوه لهب مصباح الزيت، ولا يزال المريدون يشيرون إلى نفس درجة الرخام التي كان يفضلها. المئات من قوارير الطين تنزلق على النهر خلال المهرجانات الكبرى، ويرمي الرهبان ذوو الجلابيب الزعفرانية أكاليل الزهور في التيار، ويهتز صدى أصداف المحار العميق عبر درجات الحجر المبللة.
