- Wear sturdy shoes, the ancient paving and steep ramps are uneven and slippery after rain.
- Ask at the ticket desk if the upper terraces are open, they sometimes close for conservation and those views are worth the climb.
- Skip the guided tour and grab the free audio guide instead, it lets you move at your own pace through the quieter corners.
- Head to the lower level exit near Via dei Fori Imperiali for a dramatic upward photo of the brick arches framing the sky.
