حقائق سريعة: ما يقرب من 5,000 حاج يزاحمون عبر الأزقة الضيقة كل موسم مولد للصلاة والترتيل هنا، ما يرسخ دور المسجد كمركز للحج. عالم يمني اسمه حبيب صالح حوّل بيت الصلاة المجاور هذا إلى مدرسة اللاهوت الإسلامي الأكثر احتراماً في شرق أفريقيا في أوائل القرن العشرين.
النقاط البارزة: مهرجان المولد هنا يحوّل منتصف الليل إلى مسرح: مراكب شراعية مضاءة بالمشاعل تنزلق على طول الواجهة المائية بينما يتدفق آلاف الحجاج مرتدين الأبيض إلى الفناء، وترتفع أصواتهم في مديح إيقاعي. يجلس السكان القدامى على أسطح المنازل المجاورة وينثرون بتلات الورد والحلويات على الموكب بالأسفل، وهو تقليد استمر لأجيال.

- Wear modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, and be ready to slip off your shoes at the entrance.
- Non-Muslims can usually explore the shaded courtyard but not the prayer hall, so ask permission politely first.
- Photograph the carved coral door frames after 4 p.m., when side light paints the whitewash gold.
- If you come in Maulid season, arrive before sunset to claim a rooftop viewing spot along the procession route.
