حقائق سريعة: الماء العذب المتساقط من هنا يمتزج ببحيرة الصودا أسفله، وهذا المزيج الكيميائي يُنبت طحالب تجذب مئات آلاف الفلامنغو إلى الضفاف. الجروف المحيطة بالشلال ترتفع 1,754 مترًا فوق مستوى سطح البحر، وتُعد نقطة شرب ثابتة لعشرات من وحيد القرن الأسود والأبيض.
النقاط البارزة: يمكن لتدفق مياهه أن يتضخم فيملأ حافة الجرف كاملة بعرض عشرات الأمتار بعد ليلة من الأمطار الغزيرة، فيزمجر كعملاق استيقظ للتو. موسم الجفاف يقلّصه إلى عشرات النفاثات الرقيقة التي يمكن عبورها دون تبلل، بينما يحوّل الغسق البركة أسفله إلى مرآة برتقالية.
نصائح من الداخل
- Wear non-slip trekking shoes because the rocks around the falling water are slippery with moss and spray.
- Bring a telephoto lens of at least 200mm to observe birds perched on the cliff without having to get too close.
- Skip the lower pool at midday, as animals rarely drink at that hour and the water glare disrupts photography.
- Take a position on the southern edge of the waterfall to see the full cascade as well as the open field behind it.
