حقائق سريعة: كانت قلهات ذات يوم ميناءً تجارياً كبيراً ينافس هرمز، وكانت المدينة الثانية في مملكة هرمز التي كان تجارها يتاجرون بالحرير والتوابل والخيول عبر المحيط الهندي. وصفها رحالة من القرن الرابع عشر بأن مبانيها "محكمة البناء وتذكرنا بالبصرة"، ولا يزال ضريح بيبي مريم الشهير قائماً شاهدا على مجدها الغابر.
النقاط البارزة: ضريح بيبي مريم، بجدرانه المقوسة الشاهقة ومحاربه المنحوتة المعقدة، هو البناء الوحيد الباقي من العصر الذهبي لقلهات. ولا يزال قائماً بلا سقف، مفتوحاً على سماء الصحراء بعد 700 عام. تقول الأسطورة المحلية إن الضريح بنته ملكة حزينة لزوجها، ولا يزال الموقع مكاناً تأتي إليه العائلات العمانية للتنزه بين الأطلال، بينما يمرح الأطفال بين حجارة عمرها قرون.

- Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip as the terrain is uneven with loose stones and occasional snakes.
- Bring plenty of water and sun protection, there is zero shade across the entire archaeological site.
- Combine with a visit to nearby Wadi Shab or the fishing village of Sur to make a full day trip from Muscat.
- Look for the ancient water cisterns carved into the rock, easy to miss but fascinating to examine up close.
